Cheesy scalloped potatoes are a creamy, cheesy side dish made with layers of thinly sliced potatoes and a rich cheese sauce.

- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Stir in the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until smooth.
- Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of cheddar cheese.
- Layer half of the potato slices in the baking dish.
- Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
- Repeat with remaining potatoes and sauce.
- Top with the remaining cheddar cheese.
- Bake for 1 hour or until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly.
Notes
- Let the dish sit for a few minutes before serving.
- Use a mandoline for even potato slices.
