Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add molasses, egg, and vanilla to the butter mixture, and mix well.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thick and cut into shapes.
  8. Place cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are firm.
  10. Let cool before decorating.
