A festive layered dessert featuring sponge cake, custard, fruit, and whipped cream.

- 1 pound sponge cake
- 2 cups mixed berries
- 2 cups vanilla custard
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup sherry
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Cut the sponge cake into cubes.
- Layer half of the cake in a trifle bowl.
- Drizzle half of the sherry over the cake.
- Add half of the mixed berries on top.
- Spread half of the custard over the berries.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
- Whip the heavy cream with sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
- Top the trifle with whipped cream and additional berries.
- Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.

- Use a variety of berries for color.
- Can substitute sherry with orange juice for a non-alcoholic version.
- Make ahead a day for better flavor.
