Description
Traditional Greek cake served during New Year’s celebrations.
Ingrédients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup olive oil
- 4 eggs
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1 coin (for the Vasilopita tradition)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour and baking powder.
- In another bowl, beat eggs and sugar until fluffy.
- Add milk, olive oil, and vanilla to the egg mixture.
- Gradually add the flour mixture, stirring until smooth.
- Fold in walnuts and raisins.
- Pour the batter into a greased cake pan.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- After cooling, hide the coin in the cake.
- Slice and serve to celebrate the New Year.
Notes
- Serve with a cup of coffee or tea.
- Decorate with powdered sugar on top.
- Traditionally, the first slice is for Saint Basil.
