Description
A festive cake inspired by the Grinch that is perfect for Christmas celebrations.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp salt
- Green food coloring
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract for frosting
- Red candy hearts for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
- Stir in green food coloring until desired color is achieved.
- Pour batter into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
- Frost the cooled cakes and decorate with red candy hearts.
Notes
- Use a toothpick to check the cakes for doneness.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
- Feel free to adjust the amount of food coloring for a deeper green.
