A guide on how to cook a Thanksgiving turkey.

- 1 whole turkey (12–14 lbs)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 4 cups turkey broth
- 1 onion, quartered
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Remove the turkey giblets and rinse the turkey under cold water.
- Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- In a bowl, mix butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary.
- Rub the butter mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin.
- Place the onion, carrots, and celery in the roasting pan.
- Set the turkey on top of the vegetables in the pan.
- Pour turkey broth into the pan.
- Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil.
- Roast the turkey for about 13-15 minutes per pound.
- Remove the foil in the last hour for a golden skin.
- Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (74°C).
- Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
Notes
- Brining the turkey overnight adds flavor and moisture.
- Use a meat thermometer for accurate cooking.
- Save the drippings for gravy.
