Ingrédients

  • 8 cups beef broth

  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 baguette, sliced
  • 2 cups grated Gruyere cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, melt butter and olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add onions, salt, and sugar. Cook until onions are caramelized.
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add beef broth, wine, thyme, and bay leaf. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to broil.
  6. Remove thyme and bay leaf. Ladle soup into oven-safe bowls.
  7. Top with baguette slices and cheese.
  8. Broil until cheese is bubbly and golden.
