Description

A classic roast turkey recipe for Thanksgiving.


Ingrédients

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 pounds)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • 2 sprigs of rosemary
  • 2 sprigs of thyme

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove the turkey giblets and pat the turkey dry.
  3. Rub the softened butter all over the turkey.
  4. Season the turkey with salt and pepper.
  5. Stuff the cavity with onion, lemon, rosemary, and thyme.
  6. Place the turkey in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth into the bottom.
  7. Cover the turkey loosely with foil.
  8. Roast for about 2.5 to 3 hours, removing the foil in the last hour to brown the skin.
  9. Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (75°C).
  10. Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.

  • Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
  • Let the turkey come to room temperature before cooking.
  • Save the drippings for gravy.
