Description

Rosca de Reyes is a traditional Mexican pastry served on Epiphany. It symbolizes the visit of the Three Wise Men.


Ingrédients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk, warmed
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup candied fruit for decoration
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add butter, eggs, vanilla, and the yeast mixture. Stir until combined.
  4. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  6. Shape the dough into a ring and place it on a baking sheet.
  7. Decorate with candied fruit and almonds.
  8. Let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 25-30 minutes.
  10. Cool before serving.

  • Serve with hot chocolate or coffee.
  • You can hide a figurine inside for tradition.
