A flavorful smoked turkey perfect for Thanksgiving.


Ingrédients

  • 1 whole turkey (1214 lbs)
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon thyme
  • 1 tablespoon rosemary
  • 4 cups wood chips (hickory or apple)

Instructions

  1. Thaw the turkey in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
  2. Mix olive oil, salt, brown sugar, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, thyme, and rosemary in a bowl.
  3. Rub the mixture all over the turkey, under the skin and inside the cavity.
  4. Let the turkey sit at room temperature for 1 hour.
  5. Soak wood chips in water for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the smoker to 225°F (107°C).
  7. Drain the wood chips and add them to the smoker.
  8. Place the turkey in the smoker and cook for 30 minutes per pound.
  9. Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (74°C).
  10. Remove from the smoker and let it rest for 30 minutes before carving.

  • Use a meat thermometer for accurate cooking.
  • Try different wood flavors for variety.
  • Brining the turkey overnight can enhance flavor.
