- 1 whole turkey (12–14 pounds)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 onion, quartered
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Remove the giblets from the turkey.
- Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- Rub the softened butter all over the turkey.
- Season the turkey with salt, pepper, thyme, rosemary, and garlic powder.
- Stuff the cavity with onion, carrots, and celery.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth around it.
- Cover the turkey with aluminum foil.
- Roast for 3 to 3.5 hours, removing the foil in the last hour for browning.
- Check the internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (75°C).
- Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
Notes
- Thaw frozen turkey in the refrigerator for several days.
- Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
- Save the drippings for gravy.
