  • 1 whole turkey (1214 pounds)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 4 cups chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
  3. Mix butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary in a bowl.
  4. Rub the butter mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin.
  5. Stuff the cavity with lemon and onion.
  6. Place the turkey in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
  7. Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil.
  8. Roast for about 3 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  9. Remove foil for the last 30 minutes to brown the skin.
  10. Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.

  • Adjust cooking time based on the size of the turkey.
  • Use a meat thermometer for accurate temperature readings.
