  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring
  • Wooden sticks
  • Optional: sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the apples.
  2. Insert wooden sticks into the apples.
  3. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and corn syrup.
  4. Cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
  5. Increase heat and boil without stirring until mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  6. Remove from heat, add vanilla and food coloring.
  7. Dip each apple into the candy mixture, coating evenly.
  8. Place on wax paper to cool.
  9. If desired, sprinkle with toppings before the coating sets.

  • Use tart apples for contrast with the sweet coating.
  • Be careful with hot sugar syrup.
